Summer- the most painful season of the year has reached our city. Do you say painful? Yes, friends, I write “painful”. Those who live in the plane lands like Kolkata, summer are painful for us. Outside there is scorching heat, the Sun is emitting heat like never before and the tremendous humidity is not sparing us even inside our home. Every people is hoping to retreat to a cooler place for some peaceful days.

Kalimpong
This famous hill station is not very far from NJP or Darjeeling, but it is still a virgin place where you may find some calmness to release your stress.
Regular car services are available from NJP, Darjeeling or Siliguri. You can hire a car to go to Kalimpong.
Kalimpong is a small lonely hamlet in North Bengal where there are not much things to see in this town. People went there to relax and enjoy the solitude of Himalayan mountain range. However, there are some religious sites here including Catholic Church and Zong Dhog Palri Fo Brang monastery 2 KM walk from the town.

Deolo Hill– A secluded picnic spot in a small village run by the Tourism Department. You can stay there in the tourist lodge.
Golf Course– It is a must see place in Kalimpong.
Cactus Nursery– This is my personal favorite. The nursery is a place that has numerous rare cactus and flowers.
The house of Nobel Prize-winning poet Rabindranath Tagore is a famous tourist spot near Kalimpong.
If you love shopping then you can try Tashi Takgye’s beautiful objects, especially thankhas and dragon showpieces.
The famous food of Kalimpong is momo and Thupka.
There are many private lodges and homestays near Kalimpong where you can stay.
Lava
101 Km from Siliguri and 35Km from Kalimpong, Lava is a beautiful hill station at an altitude of 7200ft.
Lava is famous for its beautiful natural forest. If you are a nature lover then this is the ideal holiday spot for you this summer. The main attraction of this place is its solitude and serenity.
The places to visit are Neora Valley National Park, Jamgon Kongtrul Monastery and Changey Waterfalls. Sunrise point to view Kanchenjunga peak is another spot worth mentioning.
